This statement is true. In fact one famous Roman playwright, Livius Andronicus (c. 284 – c. 205 BC) translated Greek plays for performance on the stage. Early Roman drama was in many respects similar to Greek drama because of all the contact the Romans had with the Greeks, and they had even greater contact with Greek culture after the Third Macedonian War in 168 BC.
