What is the difference between polarization and separation of charge

The two sides of the aluminium pop can have opposite charges. Overall the can is electricity neutral; it's just that the positive and negative charge has been separated from each other. We can say that the charge in the can has been polarized. In general terms, polarization means to separate into opposites.
