As the Pythagoreans discovered to their horror, the sides of the isosceles right triangle are in ratio [tex]1:1:\sqrt 2[/tex].


The hypotenuse is [tex]\sqrt 2[/tex] times the leg, so here is


[tex]3 \sqrt{2} \times \sqrt{2} = 6[/tex]
