By the law of sines,

[tex]\dfrac{\sin90^\circ}{17}=\dfrac{\sin y^\circ}9[/tex]

[tex]\implies\sin y^\circ=\dfrac9{17}[/tex]

(since [tex]\sin90^\circ=1[/tex])

[tex]\implies y=\sin^{-1}\left(\dfrac9{17}\right)\approx32.0[/tex]
