How do we solve this and what is the answer

I assume first equation is x-y=1. Solve for x in the first one in terms of y so you get x=y-1 so then you plug it in for x to get y-1+2y=8 then solve for y to get y=3 and then plug it into first equation to get x-3=1 and solve for x
