3x - 2 = 4

Move the -2 to the other side of the equals sign to make it 4 + 2, it is now a positive because when you moved it to the other side of the equals sign the negative always changes to a positive.

Now;

3x = 4 + 2

3x = 6, divide each side by 3.

x = 2.
