The answer is true because inertia is the resistance of an object in motion to change direction of that motion. Hence if the bodies inside were going 40 mph like the car, then when the car stops, the bodies will continue at 40 mph until another force acts upon them or they are stopped by a barrier of sorts. Because they aren’t connected to the car. It’s the reason you lurch forward in a car wreck.
