so in case of ionic bonding stability

sodium has 2 options they are

1. find a way to add seven electrons to its valence shell or

2. give up that one electron so that next lower energy shell could become it's new valence shell

so seeing both options second one is more possible and easy in this stability case . Atoms like sodium , with only one or two electrons in a valence shell that needs eight electrons to achieve a stable state
