Answer: the British would force them to let them stay in whoever's home they want and have them treat them as guest

Explanation: im not 100% sure but i tried my best with the info i have

If it was back in the revolution time then it would be because they were at war with them or before the revolution it would be because they were neglected and the taxes were high so they really resented the British
