The first satellite in space was named "Sputnik I".
On the date of October 4, 1957, the Soviet Union successfully launched Sputnik I into outer space and it became the world's first artificial satellite. The satellite was about the size of a beach ball  weighed only 183 pounds.

I've attached a picture to show you what Sputnik I looked like :)
