The story states that it has been six years since his son was killed in the war, and the boss has not gone to see the grave yet. It is possible that the boss does indeed intend to never visit the grave site, but that is conjecture on the part of the reader. Therefore, what readers do know is that the boss is still emotionally crushed by the death of his son.
