Why is the executive branch of the federal government necessary for a democratic America?

Its called separation of powers. If one branch has all the power, the others wont have  a say, however with the executive branch, it is balanced. It's not really necessary for a democratic government, but I suppose that it is because that's who gets elected by the people.
