formula of midpoint

[tex](\frac{x1+x2}{2},\frac{y1+y2}{2})[/tex]

the we replace (7,1) and (-1,3)

[tex](\frac{7+(-1)}{2},\frac{1+3}{2})[/tex]

simplify to solve

[tex]\begin{gathered} (\frac{7+1}{2},\frac{4}{2}) \\ \\ (\frac{8}{2},\frac{4}{2}) \\ \\ (4,2) \end{gathered}[/tex]
