When you look at distant astronomical objects you are also looking far back in ________?

So we want to know what happens when we look at distant astronomical objects. Since light speed is finite, and the distance from the observed astronomical objects is very big, when we look at distant astronomical objects we are also looking far back in the PAST. Because the distance is measured in light years, and it takes light form far objects hundreds, thousands and even tens of thousands of years to travel to us.
