What is the slope of the line that passes through the points (1, 3) and (5, -2)?

The slope or rate of change of a line given two points is:

m=(y2-y1)/(x2-x1)  (change in y divided by change in x)

In this case:

m=(-2-3)/(5-1)

m=-5/4
