This is the area of a 4 by 3 rectangle and a 1 by 1 square, so the total area is:
A=(3*4)+(1*1)
A=12+1
A=13 ft^2
LOL, if 3,4, and 9 ft^2 are your only answer choices, they are all wrong. :P

The answer is 13ft^2 because if you cut the figure you get a square and a rectangle the area of the square is 1ft and the area of the rectangle is 12ft. If you add the numbers you get 13ft^2
