I believe the answer is A. ice

Ice pelts the windows—Ping! Ping! Ping! 
I wonder if they feel the sting 
I ask myself, do panes pained bleed? 
Probably not, just hearts in need 

In the poem, the author use ice to express something that could hurt him. This symbolizes the fear from being hurt in real life situation, which could come from a relationship, betrayal from other people, harmful intent from competitors, etc.
