The original price of an item = $35

Given : Discount percentage = 20% = [tex] \frac{20}{100} [/tex] = 0.20

Discount amount =Original price * Discount percentage

= 35 * 0.20 = 7

Discount amount = $7

Sale price = Original price - Discount amount

= 35 - 7 = 28

Sale price = $28
