Explanation: Born in Trinidad, Stokely Carmichael moved to the US in the early 1950's,  and was an activist with the Freedom Riders movement, which is why he was imprisoned. He participated in many protests concerning the rights of Blacks and was a fighter for human rights. He was also known as the leader of the Black Panther Party in the 1960's, and was remembered for his "black power" slogan.
