Consumer boom--a increase in profits turned into increased wages which was a desire of the unions.

To create a "return to normalcy" desired by Americans, many unions backed off their wants and enjoyed the increase wages offered by companies. Increases in wages resulted in more consumerism which helped to improve working conditions as well.
